The period of Ancient Egypt began with the founding of the world's first national government c. 3100 B.C. and continued until 31 B.C. when the combined forces of Antony and Cleopatra lost the Battle of Actium to Rome's Octavian (Caesar Augustus). Octavian then became the sole ruler of Rome, and Egypt became a Roman province.
